Aurora Australis

Aurora | For Evan

Many people know what the aurora is.  It’s those lights in the sky!  The Aurora Borealis, which is the northern hemisphere version, gets the most coverage. Although this is changing and a lot more people are beginning to realise that it can also be seen in the southern part of the world. The southern most southern parts of the world that is.  Such as Tasmania, the south island of New Zealand, and the southern most…

Fagus | The Photos

I don’t usually post a whole bunch of photos of the same thing… But it’s my party and I’ll cry if I want… Not that I did any crying, because I bloody love it up in this part of the world. 21st April – Nothofagus gunii – Mount Field National Park If you want to know more about Fagus, check out the post from a few days ago: Nothofagus gunnii | Tasmanian Autumn

Nothofagus gunnii | Tasmanian Autumn

Nothofagus gunnii | Tasmanian Autumn Tasmania is not the first place you think of when you think of the reds, golds and yellows of Autumn leaves spattering the landscape. Wet sclerophyll Mount Misery

Mount Misery | No it’s not

Mount Misery? The naming of mountains is an odd thing. Why this amazing patch of wet forest has been named in a such a way that infers it will be the worst day out imaginable I do not know. Woodvine Wandering | Day Ten

Woodvine Nature Reserve Out the back of Forcett is a 377 hectare property which is managed by the Parks and Wildlife Service as a nature reserve. Not simply that it is significant habitat for a range of species and ecological communities which are under threat, but because he could see the amount of land clearing going on within the area. Woodvine would not…

Aurora Australis | What The HECK

It would be negligent of me to not acknowledge the massive reaction of charged particles which recently got ejected from the sun and reacted with the various gases in the atmosphere… Or what is commonly referred to as the Aurora Australis. Holy freaking shit balls. That was the most insane sky I have ever seen. Granted, over the past few years I haven’t really spent much time out after dark chasing auroras. However, in the years that I did (and the stupid amount of time I gave up sleeping…

Why I don’t like you butchering my photos

Perhaps butchering is a harsh word. Not all people butcher, but there is a huge tendency to crop and edit. When I say edit I really mean add Instagram filters or other various phone app effects to my shots. Look. I understand that Instagram and facey profile pics are square, so some amount of cropping will happen. There are ways around that, such as the ‘squarerea dy’ app which makes them square without making them square. But that’s extra phone tapping and not all of us…
